Thailand was our first stop in Southeast Asia and the farthest that we have been from home. After a 15hr flight from Chicago to Hong Kong and a 3hr flight from Hong Kong to Bangkok we were a little “off” with the time changes. Thankfully we recovered quickly and saw a real good amount of the country in just over 3 weeks. Bangkok was a little overrated – congested and dirty, Chiang Mai was really a nice change of pace in the north of the country and the islands/beaches/waters of southern Thailand did not disappoint. Our favorite island was Ko Lanta but our favorite beach was Surin beach, in the northern part of Phuket – although we didn’t really care for Phuket island. Do you follow? We dove the Similan Islands which are a group of national park islands 60km off the west coast of Thailand. The food was all that I imagined. So good and really affordable. By far the best food we have had on our trip.
